Soma hii, itakusaidia:
Hivi watanzania wanafikiria nini kujifunza maudhui ya Kiswahili kwa kutumia Kiingereza? Ni kama Mchina kuamua kijifunza maudhui ya Kichina kwa kutumia Kiswahili, sio uchizi huo? Au mwingireza kujifunza maudhui yake ya hukooo ulaya kwa kutumia Kichina, si uchizi huo? Na Mswahili wa bongo kutumia Kiingereza kujifunza uraia!!!!!
Nina maswali machache kwenu mnaoamini Kiingereza ni elimu, na si lugha kama zilivyo lugha zingine!
  1. China wanatumia Kiingereza kujifunza? Hawana elimu au watu walioelimika?
  2. Japani wanatumia Kiingereza kufundisha maswala ya kijapani? Hawana elimu au hakuna walioelimika?
  3. Ufaransa wanatumia Kichina? Hawana elimu au watu walioelimika?
  4. Korea wanatumia Kiswahili? Hawana elimu au watu waliolimika?
Nchi zote hizo nilizozitaja hapo juu zinatumia lugha zao wenyewe kujielimisha. Lakini nchi hizo zinawazungumzaji wazuri wa Kiingereza kuliko Tanzania.
Ukweli ni kwamba....
Nchi tajwa hapo juu wanajifunza Kiingereza kwa chini ya miaka mitatu nawanakizungumza kwa ufasaha zaidi ya Mtanzania aliyesoma Kiingereza, sekondari hadi chuo kwa miaka zaidi ya kumi!! Umewahi kujiuliza ni kwanini? Kwa ufupi sana nitajaribu kukujibu:
KUNA TOFAUTI KUBWA KATI YA LUGHA YA KUFUNDISHIA NA KUJIFUNZA LUGHA FULANI

Kuna tofauti kubwa kati ya lugha ya kufundishia na kujifunza lugha ya kigeni. Watu wanafikiria kutumia Kiingereza kujifunza vitu kama kilimo cha mbogamboga cha Tanzania ndiyo kujifunza Kiingereza na ndiyo kuelimika. Kumbe Kiingereza kinatakiwa kifundishwe kwa ubora wake, pamoja na mambo yanayohusiana na Kiingereza. Namaanisha ni ujinga kujifunza sheria ya Tanzania ama somo la urai linalohusiana na Tanzania kwa lugha ya Kiingereza wakati kwanza, katiba ya Tanzania imeandikwa kwa Kiswahili, siasa (masuala ya uraia kama vile kampeni) zinafanyika kwa Kiswahili--leo unataka utumie Kiingereza kujifunzia maudhui hayo ya Kiswahili! Kwa nchi zilizoendelea lugha ya kigeni hufunzwa na wazawa (natives) wa lugha hiyo au waliojifunza lugha hiyo kama vile Kiingereza na kuchangamana na wazawa wa lugha, pamoja na kufundisha maudhui yanayohusiana na lugha.

Huoni kama ni upungufu wa akili kama leo Mchina atatumia Kiswahili kujifunza nyimbo za Kichina? Huo ndio huohuo upunguani ambao Mchina hakukubali kutumia Kiingereza kujifunza mapishi ya vyakula vya Kichina. Geuza kwa watanzania, ni upunguani kujifunza mambo ya watanzania, na maisha ya waswahili kwa Kiingereza badala ya kutumia Kiswahili! Kumbuka Kiingereza si lugha yetu, ina wenyewe, kubali ukatae, ina wenyewe wanaozungumza kwa ufasaha wake, na Kiingereza vilevile kina utamaduni! Kama vile Kichina kilivyo na utamaduni!
Maudhui ya Kiingereza yanajumuisha utamaduni wake. Na hapa kwa vile wanasema tunajifunza Kiingereza cha Uingereza (jambo amabalo pia sikubaliani nalo) lugha ya watu wa Uingereza wana utamaduni wao. Huo ndiyo tungetakiwa kujifunza ili kuweza kuwasiliana na watu hao. Hatuna haja ya kujifunza Kiingereza ili tuweze kuwasiliana sisi kwa sisi, yaani watanzania wenyewe, kwani sisi kwa sisi tunamawasiliano tayari. Mawasiliano yetu yapo kwa lugha ya Kiswahili na lugha zingine za nyumbani kama vile Kichaga, Kipare, Kimasai, Kisukuma n.k Mambo yanayohusiana na lugha ya Kiingereza na ambayo yangeleta maana ya kujifunza Kiingereza, ni vitu kama teknolojia ya watu wa Uingereza, Marekani na sehemu zingine ambazo maudhui yao yanapatikana kwa lugha ya Kiingereza. Mazoezi ambayo wanafunzi wangefanya darasani ambayo yangeleta maana ya kujifunza Kiingereza ni kama vile kutafuta tiketi ya ndege (kwa kawaida zipo kwa lugha ya Kiingereza), katiba ya marekani (ipo kwa Kiingereza), n.k. Hivyo ndivyo wenzetu wanavyojifunza lugha za watu, kikiwemo Kiswahili.

Nakumbusha tena, lengo la kujifunza lugha ya kigeni ni kuweza kuwasiliana na mgeni, siyo kuweza kuwasiliana sisi kwa sisi, sisi tayari tuna lugha na hatuna haja ya kutumia lugha za watu kujielimisha kwa mambo yanayotuhusu. Si akili kuchukua lugha ya mgeni kujielimisha kuhusu mambo yanayotuhusu!!!! Ni kama vile tuseme tutumie lugha ya Kiingereza kuwasiliana hapa JF.
Sidhani kama utanielewa sana lakini nitashukuru kama utaelewa kidogo, elimu bora haimaanishi Kiingereza. Elimu bora ni maudhui. Na ili maudhui hayo yawafikie walengwa, ni lazima itolewe kwa lugha inayoeleweka.

Kutumia Kiingereza kunawapa watu majukumu mawili, kujifunza lugha kwanza, halafu kuanza kutafsiri maudhui katika Kiswahili ili kupata ujumbe. Hiyo ni biashara kubwa sana unaipa ubongo, na wachache ndiyo hufanikiwa kufanya biashara hiyo. Wengi wanaishia kukariri na kufaulu mtihani basi.

Kuna uwezekano wa kujifunza lugha ya Kiingereza bila kutoa elimu ya Tanzania inayowahusu watanzania kwa kutumia lugha wanasiyoielewa ya Kiingereza. Lugha inayoeleweka ni Kiswahili, itumike kuelimisha watu.
Faida za kutumia Kiswahili (kufundishia)
  1. Ni lugha inayoeleweka hivyo kila mtu atapata fursa ya kupata elimu kwa urahisi zaidi kwani hakutakuwa na haja ya kutafsiri ujumbe kwenda Kiswahili ili kuuelewa.
  2. Mzazi atachangia katika kumuelimisha mtoto. Katika jamii nyingi zilizoendelea, wazazi huanza kuwaelimisha watoto wao wakiwa wachanga kabisa kwa kuwasomea hadithi. Kwa nchi kama Marekani, watoto husomewa hadithi nyingi sana za Kiingereza--lugha wanayoizungumza, vivyo hivyo nchini china, watoto husomewa hadithi nyingi sana za Kichina --lugha wanayoizungumza, Ujerumani vilevile stori za watoto zipo Kijerumani. Hadithi hizi wazazi huwasomea watoto kabla ya kulala, au wawapo katika mapumziko. Hadithi hizi zimejaa elimu. Mbali na kuwa zingine ni stori za maisha tu na kufurahisha, nyingi huwa na masuala yanayohusu tanzu mbalimbali za elimu kama vile sayansi, hesabu, historia, uraia n.k. Mtoto anapoanza kusoma shuleni, elimu ile inakuwa imeunganishwa na hadithi alizozisoma, au waalimu hufundishwa kuunganisha hadithi hizo na masomo ya shuleni. Matokeo yake ni kwamba mzazi anakuwa ameshamjengea mtoto msingi wa elimu na kupenda kusoma na msingi huo huendelezwa na walimu. Kwa Tanzania ni vigumu msingi huo kujengwa, kwani hata mzazi angemwanzishia mawanawe kusoma hadithi za Kiswahili (maana wazazi wengi wanaelewa na kusema vizuri Kiswahili zaidi ya Kiingereza--ni vigumu kumsomea mtoto hadithi kwa lugha asiyoijua--hakutakuwa na matunda bora) elimu inakuja kumtenganisha na ule msingi alioupata kwa wazazi. Na kifupi tu ni kwamba hata wazazi wenyewe hawaoni haja ya kujenga msingi utakaobomolewa hivyo wamewaacha watoto katika mikono ya walimu kwa kusubiri mtoto akue ampeleke 'English Medium". Hilo ni kosa! Si ujanja ni kosa.
  1. Wazazi wengi wasiojua Kiingereza watakuwa na uwezo wa kufuatilia maendeleo ya watoto wao kwani alama zitaandikwa kwa Kiswahili. Wazazi wengi hawawezi kabisa kutoa maoni yao kwa watoto wao kwa kutoelewa hata ripoti inayotumwa kwa mzazi ambayo ipo kwa Kiingereza au matokeo ambayo yamefafanuliwa kwa Kiingereza.
  2. Maudhui yatasadifu lugha. Kama nilivyotangulia kusema, haina maana  yoyote kujifunza mambo ya wabongo kwa lugha ya kigeni wakati tuna lugha tayari!
Sasa itakuwaje kwa Kiingereza, lugha ambayo ni muhimu kuijua katika dunia ya sasa?
Kama nilivyotangulia kusema, huna haja ya kupata elimu kwa lugha ya Kiingereza ili kukijua Kiingereza. Wachina wanaojifunza Kiingereza kwa muda mfupi na kukizungumza vizuri zaidi yetu hawajakitumia katika elimu, wamejifunza chenyewe kama chenyewe. Hilo ndilo tunalotakiwa tulifanye.
Hatua zifuatazo zichukuliwe:
  1. Kiingereza kifundishwe na watu wazawa wa lugha hiyo, au watu waliofunzwa vizuri na kufikia kukizungumza katika ubora wake. Mara nyingi watu hawa pia lazima wawe wamepata nafasi ya kukizungumza na wazawa shuleni kwao au kwa kusafiri na kuishi na wazawa wanaotumia lugha ya Kiingereza. Hii itasaidia mtu kusoma Kiingereza sahihi kwa muda mfupi. Kwa sasa Kiingereza ambacho si sahihi kinafundishwa kwa muda mrefu sekondari, vyuoni na mtaani.
  2. Maudhui yalenge nia na madhumuni ya kusoma Kiingereza. Nchini Tanzania, sababu inayotajwa watu kujifunza Kiingereza ni kuweza kuwasiliana na watu wa nje. Kama hiyo ndiyo sababu, basi maudhui yanayotolewa yawe ya nje. Kwa mfano, kama dhumuni ni kufanya mipango ya biashara na watu wa Marekani au Uingereza, mada ambayo inatakiwa iwe kwenye kitabu cha kufundishia Ni kama vile 'MAZUNGUMZO YA KIBIASHARA". Mifano mbalimbali ya mazungumzo ya kibiashara yachukuliwe kutoka kwa watu wa Marekani au Uingereza wakifanya makubaliano ya kibiashara. Misamiati kama "Dollar, Euro," n.k lazima itaonekana kwenye mifano hiyo. Mifano hii inaweza kupatikana mtandaoni kwa urahisi au katika vitabu vinavyotumiwa kufundishia Kiingereza Marekani ama Ulaya.
Jambo lingine:
Umewahi kujiuliza kwanini wazungu wengi wakizungumza wanasimulia hadithi zao za utoto? Yaani si jambo la kushangaza kumsikia mzungu akisema 'When I was a child....'

Ngoja nikupe siri. Katika elimu kuna kitu kinaitwa 'Connection' (Uunganishaji). Unamfundisha mtoto kuunganisha jambo lolote analojifunza darasani na maisha yake ya kawaida. Kwa mfano, unapomfundisha mtoto sheria ya Newton, na kumtaka aikariri lazima umsaidie kuunganisha sheria hiyo na maisha ya kawaida. Mfano mzuri ni kwamba ni huwa nikiwafundisha wanafunzi wangu wa nje za nchi jambo, huniuliza 'Kwa nini ninatakiwa kujua jambo hili?" Hilo ndilo swali linaloleta 'uunganisho' katika elimu, ama mada, au dhana inayofundishwa. Mwalimu anaposhindwa kujibu swali hilo inaonesha haelewi jambo analolifundisha kwa undani wake. Na si kosa, anaweza kuomba msaada kwa wanafunzi au walimu wenzake.

Elimu ya Tanzania haina UUNGANISHO, imeachana kuanzia suala la lugha mpaka maudhui.
